Investigative Journalism
INCA 391 is an advanced investigative journalism course that challenges students to produce public service journalism in their community. The course focuses on research, storytelling, and investigating the policies and issues that impact our everyday lives.
Course Objectives:
1. Explore the role of investigative journalism in democracy and accountability.
2. Develop an investigative journalistic mindset.
3. Learn to identify issues of public interest worth pursuing.
4. Identify the difference between investigative projects from routine beats and feature stories – including depth, verification requirements, and public impact.
5. Explore different investigative projects, including in-depth analysis, data sets, and verification requirements.
