INCA 391 - Investigative Journalism

Course Description: This course is an introduction to the techniques and processes of investigative journalism, with a focus on Indigenous issues, research, and storytelling. 

 

Course Objectives:

1.     Explore the role of investigative journalism in democracy and accountability.

2.     Develop an investigative journalistic mindset.

3.     Learn to identify issues of public interest worth pursuing. 

4.     Identify the difference between investigative projects from routine beats and feature stories – including depth, verification requirements, and public impact. 

5.     Explore different investigative projects, including in-depth analysis, data sets, and verification requirements.
