EPISODE 4: 2025-2026 Miss FNUniv Ambassador Aaliyah O’Watch talks about her princess duties.
‘‘Tansi, I’m Jazera Oakes from Nekaneet Cree First Nation. Growing up I was the shy kid so taking this crash course for journalism and radio is challenging but very exciting. Getting to learn even more new things and meeting new people is pretty fun. Being the quiet kid, I'd always use writing to express myself and it was my way of feeling heard. Taking this crash course I’m able to learn even more about editing, producing and sharing stories through the journalists POV. I think this crash course is pretty important especially if you want to challenge yourself by being out there and getting to inspire the youth.
I enjoy being behind the scenes and seeing everything come together when it’s all finished and I’d like to travel and see the world and share stories for those who can’t. I also think journalism is important because there was a time we weren’t allowed to speak our language or even celebrate who we are, so seeing how everything is incorporating First Nations culture is an incredible change. We still have a long way to go still within our own youth and learning our language, but we already have come far from residential schools, which is something to be very proud of. Thank you to INCA for having these crash courses!’’
